Flowers
Wedding flowers are one of the most important elements of your day. They add texture and color to your room, create focal points for photographers and serve as conversational pieces for your guests. Flowers make the wedding party feel as if they are a special part of your day; and let’s be honest, when else will you get to carry a fragrant, glorious bouquet of flowers for the entire day? The flowers you choose can be reflective of the season: such as mums in the autumn or tulips in the spring or emanate a feeling: such as clean, classic roses in a streamlined vase or loose, wild flowers in a mason jar.
Considering that most of us are not Botanists, choosing the right flowers can feel like an overwhelming task. Yet, one of the easiest ways to tackle this job is to save any pictures of flowers, arrangements, or bouquets that catch your eye. Once you’ve saved enough pictures, a theme will begin to emerge and it will give the Memrical design team a clearer idea of your vision. At Memrical, we work with brides to find elements that will unify their wedding day decor. Flowers are a great way to create continuity between the ceremony and reception.
Where do I start?
Start by looking in your closet. What color palettes appeal to you? Keep in mind there are usually three colors used in a room design: a base color or neutral tone such as white, ivory, champagne, black or brown; a main color that will be used in multiple aspects of the room; and an accent color to compliment the main color.
Consider the season. We can make anything work, but if you are thinking budget-friendly, we will show you flowers that are available during the appropriate season rather than having a special order shipped-in from Holland or the tropics.
Consult the Color Wheel. Although we always want you to push the envelope and create a wedding that is unique to you, famous artists haven’t created great works by tossing color theory out the window. Color is only appealing when combined correctly. Consider mixing a variety of dark and light shades. This will make your room more dynamic and visually pleasing.
Refer to the season for color as well. Spring is know for its pastels, the Summer season often features vibrant colors, Autumn typically showcases earthy or deep jewel tones, and Winter wedding are great for sparkly whites and shiny metallics.
Things to Consider:
- Smaller flowers are not always cheaper
- Seasonal is reasonable
- Know what you DON’T like and what you do like
- It’s OK to break the rules…do what you love!
